CAREERS AT DESCARTES
Descartes Academy was founded in 2001 as an afterschool education facility offering small group classes and one-on-one tutoring to students at all grade levels in all subjects. With almost 20 years of success in delivering effective afterschool enrichment programs, we are seeking instructors with a strong academic background and varied life experience capable of engaging with young learners and assisting them in finding academic success.
If you are passionate about teaching and education and understand both the academic and emotional needs of students, you are the right fit for us.
RESPONSIBILITY
• Managing a classroom to have a safe and well ordered space
• Following the Descartes Academy’s teaching curriculum
• Teaching students in a one-on-one and small group environment
• Evaluating coursework, including assignments, tests and exams
• Building and maintaining relationships with parents
• Addressing issues with performance and behavior
• Writing reports cards about student performance for both students and parents
• Maintaining up-to-date and accurate records of grades and attendance
REQUIREMENT
Successful candidates will have as a minimum requirement a degree from a recognized college or university. For teaching mathematics to students in grades 5 and up, candidates must have taken post-secondary mathematics classes as part of their degree program. A Bachelor of Education is an asset but not mandatory.
